Privacy Policy for ChemStudy
Last updated: 28 October 2026 (ads, ChemStudy Pro and optional sign-in)
ChemStudy is a chemistry study app with class-wise notes, quizzes, a periodic table, calculators and an AI tutor. It is free with ads, or you can buy ChemStudy Pro to remove ads and get more AI help. Signing in is optional.
What stays on your phone
- Your class, optional first name, chapters read, quiz scores, streaks, mistakes to revise, favourite elements and settings are stored only on your phone.
- They are deleted when you use “Reset progress”, clear the app’s storage, or uninstall the app.
The AI tutor
- When you ask the tutor a question, tap “Explain it more simply” or ask why a quiz answer was wrong, the text you send (and a photo, if you attach one) and your class are sent to our server and to Anthropic, which provides the Claude AI model, to produce the answer.
- We do not store your questions, photos or answers. Anthropic processes them to answer and does not use them to train its models.
- To give each install a fair daily limit of free questions, the app signs in anonymously with Google Firebase. This creates a random ID that is not linked to your name, email or phone number. We keep only a count of questions per ID per day, which is deleted automatically within a few days.
- Google Firebase App Check verifies that requests come from the genuine app.
- Please don’t include personal information (like your full name, address or phone number) in questions or photos.
Ads (free version)
- The free version shows ads from Google AdMob. Google may collect your device's advertising ID, IP address and app usage to show and measure ads. See how Google uses information from apps that use its services.
- Where the law requires it (for example in the EU and UK), the app asks for your consent before personalised ads. On iPhone, Apple's "Allow tracking" prompt decides whether ads may be personalised; if you decline, ads are not personalised. You can change your ad privacy choices in Settings.
- ChemStudy Pro removes all ads.
ChemStudy Pro (purchases)
- Payments are handled by Google Play or Apple; we never see your card details.
- We use RevenueCat to check whether you have Pro. RevenueCat receives your purchase details (product, dates, store receipt) together with the app's random user ID. See the RevenueCat privacy policy.
Optional sign-in
- You can sign in with Google (or Apple on iPhone) so that ChemStudy Pro works on all your devices. We then receive your email address and an account ID from Google or Apple through Google Firebase Authentication. If you use "Hide my email" with Apple, we only receive Apple's relay address.
- Your study progress still stays on your phone; signing in does not upload it.
Deleting your account and data
- In the app: Settings → Account → Delete account. This deletes your sign-in account and ChemStudy's server data (daily usage counts), signs you out and clears the data stored on your phone.
- Without the app: email gautamk175@gmail.com from the email address you signed in with, with the subject "Delete my ChemStudy account". We delete the account within 30 days.
- Purchases are kept by Google Play or Apple as required by law; cancelling a subscription is done in your Play or App Store account.
Permissions
- Camera (optional): only when you choose to photograph a question or a product for the tutor.
- Microphone (optional): only while you tap the mic to ask or search by voice. Your speech is turned into text by your phone’s own speech service (for example Google’s); ChemStudy receives only the text, never a recording, and stores nothing. Read-aloud uses your phone’s text-to-speech.
- Photos: picking a photo uses the system photo picker, so the app never gets access to your gallery.
- Internet: for the AI tutor and element photos. Notes, quizzes, the periodic table and tools work offline.
- Notifications (optional): study reminders, exam countdowns and the weekly summary are scheduled on your phone; nothing is sent to us.
Element photos and widget
Element photos are loaded from our website (wobblefit-app.web.app); like any website, the server sees a normal web request. Photos come from Wikimedia Commons under the licences shown on each element card. The home-screen widget reads only data stored on your phone.
Sharing
We don’t sell your data. The services involved are Google Firebase (sign-in, App Check and our server), Anthropic (the AI model), Google AdMob (ads in the free version) and RevenueCat (purchases), as described above.
Children
ChemStudy is intended for students aged 13 and over. It doesn’t ask for your location or contacts. If you believe a child under 13 has signed in, contact us and we will delete the account. Parents can contact us about any question at the address below.
Content
Notes and quiz questions are written for ChemStudy and follow the NCERT syllabus (US course tracks reuse the same notes in a different order); they are not NCERT text. Element data comes from PubChem (U.S. National Institutes of Health), which is in the public domain. AI answers can contain mistakes; check important answers with your textbook or teacher.
